CBF Texas invites participation in border mission
___Churches and individuals from across Texas are invited to participate in a summer missions and ministry project on the Texas-Mexico border sponsored by Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Texas July 22-26.
___Participants will provide light construction work for residents of the Progreso and San Carlos colonias in the lower Rio Grande Valley. Team members also will facilitate a Vacation Bible School-type activity and sports camp for children living in Progreso.
___The mission trip is coordinated with Buckner Children & Family Services of the Rio Grande Valley, which has a partnership with CBF as part of the nationwide Rural Poverty Initiative.
___David Wright, CBF Texas missions committee chairman, said the state CBF Coordinating Council hopes churches and individuals from all over Texas will join in the project.
___"We would like to invite churches in Texas to bring as many of their members as they can," he said. "This is the perfect project for youth, families or Sunday School classes."
___Logistics for the project are being handled by Jorge Zapata, Buckner missions coordinator for the Rio Grande Valley. Housing accommodations have been secured at the Valley Baptist Missions/Education Center in Harlingen, which can house participants in dorm-style rooms. Local motels also offer special rates for missions program participants.
___For more details about the project, contact Wright at (713) 529-4167, (713) 408-4442 or Judy Battles at (817) 419-8100.
