THE ALTAR of Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio fills with worshippers as evangelist Albert Mottesi appeals for commitments to faith in Jesus Christ. Mottesi preached at the Hispanic Evangelism Crusade sponsored by the Baptist General Convention of Texas and San Antonio Mexican Baptist Association. The Jan. 27 event preceded the annual Texas Baptist Evangelism Conference.

Five panelists explain diverse world religions at HBU forum

___HOUSTON--Representatives of five world religions came together at Houston Baptist University Jan. 29 for a three-hour discussion on the fundamentals of their faiths.
___The World Religions Forum, sponsored by HBU's College of Arts and Humanities, allowed each speaker to address three questions: Who is God? Why is there evil and suffering in this life? What is the ultimate destiny of human life?
___Throughout the three-hour event, the Jew, the Christian and the Muslim frequently appealed to the teachings of their written Scriptures. The Buddhist and the Hindu appealed to personal experience and tradition, only occasionally mentioning sacred writings.

Rankin reverses course; IMB missionaries must sign

___RICHMOND, Va. (ABP)--The 5,100 missionaries appointed by the Southern Baptist Convention's International Mission Board will be required to affirm the controversial Baptist Faith & Message 2000.
___The doctrinal statement has been rejected by the Baptist General Convention of Texas because of its declaration that wives must submit to their husbands and that women may not serve as pastors, as well as its deletion of an earlier statement that the criterion for interpreting the Bible is Jesus Christ.
___The new requirement of all IMB missionaries reverses a policy adopted by IMB trustees one year ago.
