___bluebull Hardin-Simmons plans apartments. Trustees of Hardin-Simmons University have approved construction of a $2.6 million student apartment complex north of the campus. Construction on the 100-bed, three-story complex should begin in October, with completion scheduled for fall 2000.
___bluebull DBU honors Perot Jr. Dallas Baptist University gave its Russell Perry Free Enterprise Award to Ross Perot Jr. Sept. 27. Keynote speaker at the annual event was Lt. Gov. Rick Perry. Perot is chairman of Hillwood, a corporation dealing in real estate, investment and development.
___bluebull Theodore named admissions director. Steve Theodore has been named director of admissions and associate vice president for enrollment management at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. He has worked for the university since 1988, first as an admissions counselor, then as associate director of financial aid and director of graduate enrollment.
___bluebull Texas center becomes Seminary Extension's 500th. When the Southern Baptist Seminary Extension program certified Tryon-Evergreen Baptist
___Association's Institute for Learning as a new extension center, it marked the first time 500 Seminary Extension centers were in operation in a given year. The Institute, located in Conroe, is directed by Dan Gilmore, associate director of missions. Seminary Extension, located in 46 states, Canada and Mexico, as well as overseas, offers basic ministry training in a classroom setting.
___bluebull Education retreat planned. The second annual retreat of the West Texas Ministers of Education will be Oct. 19-20 at Plains Baptist Assembly near Floydada. Guest speaker will be Gene Wilkes, pastor of Legacy Drive Baptist Church in Plano. ___bluebull Orientation offered for adoptive parents. Buckner International Adoption Services will offer a free orientation to families interested in becoming parents to Russian orphans. ___bluebull Baylor taps Williams for church relations. Howard Williams Jr. has been named director of church relations for Baylor University. Williams, formerly minister of education and discipleship at Calvary Baptist Church in Waco, will connect the university with churches through conferences, student placements, campus visits, musical programs and other events.
