GRACE & PEACE:
Baptists team up together
to tell Texas Jesus saves
___"Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:19-20)
___We Texans live in a mission field, one of the largest and most complex in the world. To think otherwise, such as believing that Texas is a "Christian state," is to undermine efforts to reach Texas for Christ and fulfill the Great Commission of the Lord Jesus Christ.
___Texas Baptist leaders have recited a litany of lostness again and again--over half the
Texas population is not part of any religious organization, Christian or otherwise; the lost population of Texas is greater than the total population of each of 42 states and of each of more than 100 nations of the world. People move to Texas --now the second most populous state--by the tens of thousands each year, coming from areas of the world where the saving power of Jesus is little known.

___In recent years, Texas Baptists have established record numbers of new churches and baptized record numbers of people in an effort to reach the Texas mission field for Christ. However, the state's population grows so rapidly that it is difficult to make headway in the effort. This means that if we are to be faithful to the responsibility God has given us, we need to increase our prayer, witness and other missions efforts.
___At this time, special focus is being placed by Texas Baptists in the Texas missions field. Woman's Missionary Union of Texas, as always, helps lead the way in this emphasis through the Week of Prayer for Texas Missions, Sept. 12-19, and the Mary Hill Davis Offering for missions efforts in Texas. The theme is "Together ... Tell Texas Jesus Saves." What an appropriate theme--one which supports the Texas 2000 vision to share Jesus with every person in Texas by the year 2000.
___Surely every church in Texas will want to be part of this focus on Texas missions--learning about, praying for, giving to and being involved in the Texas missions effort. You can play a vital part in this. Encourage your pastor as he helps focus your church on the awesome challenge that God has given us.
___Please pray for the effort to reach the Texas mission field for Christ. Pray for Woman's Missionary Union of Texas and the Week of Prayer for Texas Missions, Sept. 12-19. And please pray for generous--yea sacrificial--giving to the Mary Hill Davis Offering for Texas Missions.
