___bluebull Texans receive scholarships. Two Texas college students who served on the 1999 summer staffs of LifeWay conference centers at Glorieta, N.M., and Ridgecrest, N.C., received scholarships in recognition of their outstanding service. Recipients are Rosemary Creswick of Richardson, a sophomore at the University of Oklahoma, and Virginia Swearingen of Duncanville, a senior at Ouachita Baptist University.

___bluebull New writer named. Mary Stephens, vice president of Buckner Retirement Services, is a new writer for the Baptist Standard's Family Matters column. Stephens will write the column dealing with issues confronting senior adults. She replaces Sandy Abernathy, who moved out of state. Stephens joined Buckner Baptist Benevolences, the parent organization of Buckner Retirement Services, in 1980. She has been executive director of Buckner Retirement Village in Dallas and held five other positions with the Texas Baptist ministry. She is a graduate of Texas Christian University and Texas Woman's University. Stephens and her husband, Ed, are members of Lakeside Baptist Church in Dallas.

___bluebull ETBU names Blankenship. Vince Blankenship has been named director of admissions at East Texas Baptist University. Blankenship, a 1985 graduate of ETBU, has worked in the admissions office since 1996.

___bluebull Newbury to retire as chancellor. Don Newbury will step down as chancellor of Howard Payne University next May. He was the Brownwood school's president from 1986 to 1997 and has been chancellor since his retirement from the presidency.

___bluebull Wayland plans ministry workshop. Wayland Baptist University will present its annual ministry development workshop Sept. 17-18 on the Plainview campus. The free event for ministers and lay leaders will feature Gary Farley, a nationally recognized expert in small church development, and Jan Daehnert, assistant director of church relations with the Baptist General Convention of Texas, as well as other speakers. ___bluebull Eady to lead Hillcrest. Bruce Eady has been named executive director of hospitals for Hillcrest Health System in Waco. He will have administrative responsibility for Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco and Hillcrest Medical Center at West. Eady, a former Hillcrest administrator, most recently was chief executive officer of Regional Health System in Columbia, Mo.
