___DALLAS--Accusations that the Baptist General Convention of Texas does not believe the Bible and is captive to American "culture" because of its reaffirmation of the 1963 Baptist Faith & Message cause concern for Charles Wade.
___Wade, executive director-elect of the 2.7-million-member BGCT, has released a statement which is being mailed to all churches and pastors after leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention and Southern Baptists of Texas Convention made recent accusations about the BGCT's position.
Missionary strives to teach
Jesus as the only true God
___BEIJING, China (BP)--"Yes, I will believe in Jesus too."
___While it might seem this statement would come as good news to a missionary, it's a response Southern Baptist missionary Eve Hunt actually finds heartbreaking.
___The key is in the little word "too."
___"I will believe in Jesus too," when spoken among the Han people of China, means the speaker is willing to add Jesus to the collection of idols already on the "god shelves" in their homes, explains Hunt, whose real name cannot be used for security reasons.
___Among the Han people, she hears "no comprehension that when Jesus enters the heart of a person, there is no need, room or allowance for false gods," she explained.
___For nearly two decades, Hunt has worked among the Han people, who comprise 93 percent of China's 1.3 billion population. She wants to help them know Christ as Savior. Currently less than 5 percent do.
Probability of professing faith
in Christ drops after age 14
___VENTURA, Calif. (RNS) --The probability of people accepting Jesus Christ as Savior drops off dramatically after age 14, a new study by the Barna Research Group has found.
___Data from a nationwide representative sampling of more than 4,200 young people and adults indicate that youth from ages 5 through 13 have a 32 percent probability of accepting Christ as Savior. Young people from the ages of 14 through 18 have a 4 percent likelihood of making that choice, while adults ages 19 and older have a 6 percent probability of doing so.
___The data challenge the widely held notion that the teenage years are a prime time for evangelistic activity.
Falwell's Liberty University linked to SBC by Virginia agreement
___RICHMOND, Va. (BP)--There's a new school among the list of colleges and universities related to the Southern Baptist Convention through state Baptist conventions.
___Joining the likes of Baylor University, Samford University and dozens of other denominational schools nationwide is Jerry Falwell's Liberty University.
___The executive board of Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia voted unanimously Nov. 15 to accept Liberty University's invitation to submit two names for election to the school's trustee board.
