___bluebull The Southwest Baptist University Symphonic Winds from Bolivar, Mo., will perform at Connell Church in Fort Worth Oct. 8 and at First Church in Arlington Oct. 10 during morning services.
___bluebull Houston Baptist University has set its Spiritual Emphasis Week for Oct. 11-14. Brennan Manning, a former priest who spent time working with the poor as a construction worker and extended periods in a cave in Spain praying in solitude, will be the featured speaker. Since 1975, he has engaged in a full-time ministry of evangelization.

___bluebull LaDonna Shaw has celebrated five years as children's education director at First Church in Taylor.

___bluebull Rodney Stanford has celebrated five years as pastor of Kentuckytown Church in Whitewright.
___bluebull Johnny White has celebrated 20 years as associate pastor at Trinity Church in San Antonio.

___bluebull Lakeview Church of Grand Prairie will celebrate its 50th anniversary Oct. 10. Former pastors and staff who will help lead services will be L.E. ___bluebull Fort Graham Church in Whitney will celebrate its 20th anniversary Oct. 10. A luncheon will be followed by an anniversary celebration at 1:30 p.m. The day also will mark the 20th anniversary of Pastor Allan Lane's ordination into the ministry.
___bluebull First Church in Sheridan will hold a homecoming in celebration of its 110th anniversary Oct. 10. A luncheon will follow the morning service and gospel music will fill the afternoon.
___bluebull First Church in Calvert will celebrate its 130th anniversary Oct. 10. Jim Lafferty, former director of missions for FIRM area, will preach, while Phil Smith will lead the music. A luncheon will follow the morning service. Jeff Riley is pastor.

___bluebull Liberty Church in Hawkins will hold a homecoming Oct. 10 to celebrate 144 years of service. Former pastor Sam DeVille will preach and Damascus Road will provide the music. A luncheon will follow.
___bluebull First Church in Honey Grove will dedicate its Texas historical marker Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. A luncheon after the morning worship service will help celebrate the church's 152 years of service that the marker commemorates. Lee Brewer is pastor.

___Deaths
___bluebull Bob Wideman, 88, Aug. 22 in San Antonio. Wideman served in the education ministry of Trinity Church in San Antonio for 25 years. After his retirement in 1977, he became a church growth consultant and church starter for the Southern Baptist Sunday School Board and the Baptist General Convention of Texas Sunday School department. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gertrude; three sons; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
___bluebull Dub Wofford, Aug. 28 in Abilene. Wofford was the former dean of men and director of the Moody Student Center at Hardin-Simmons University. He retired in 1971.
___bluebull Hendricks Maxwell, 79, Sept. 12. He was pastor of three Houston-area churches plus many interims as pastor or music director since his retirement. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn; six children; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Leon.
___bluebull Jack Maddox, 71, Sept. 17 in Knox City. The longtime Texas pastor died following complications from heart surgery. He is survived by his wife, Jo.

___The Sept. 22 edition of the Baptist Standard incorrectly identified Louie Sluder's wife at the time he donated his retirement homes to Buckner Baptist Benevolences. It was Louie and Juanita Sluder who made the donation.
